Commentary on "Dear Mahmud" by Antony Di Nardo
In his poem, Di Nardo writes to Mahmud Darwish joining his side in the Arab poet's fight. Several expressions reveals Di Nardo's point of view like: "I've been away from your poems all day like I've been away of mine" which shows that he shares and suffer from the harshness that Darwish suffers from. In addition, the poet explains himself and says that he triying but is not being capable (kept looking for his poem in Allepo's souk but no matter the barder, a price would not be met). As for thhe mention of the lost poem and its meaning, it symbolizes the loss of weapons in the poets'fight.

Poem
One Native told the other
“We are free now brother”
The other scorned, so the first speaker asked
“Why do you laugh brother? Is freedom a simple joke for you?”
And he answered “My dear friend, you claim that you are free,
But would you tell me this if we were really free?”
